Cabox to Receive Phase Two Funding

At a combined federal-provincial press release at Lobster Cove Lighthouse in Gros Morne National Park, Cabox Aspiring Geopark was among a number of tourism-related projects in Western Newfoundland to share in a total of $2,744,563 in government funding intended to “help upgrade accommodations, host events and festivals, market the region, and develop new world-class attractions”.

On hand for the announcement was the Honourable Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, which will be investing $547,795, and the Honourable Gudie Hutchings, federal Minister of Rural Economic Development and Minister responsible for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA) which will be investing $2,196,768. Representing Cabox Aspiring Geopark were board members Paul Wylezol, Rob Thomas and Arne Helgeland.

Cabox Aspiring Geopark will receive a federal contribution of $126,868 and a provincial contribution of $48,795, for a total of $175,663, to be utilized in the preparation of a UNESCO Global Geopark application dossier, geosite and website development, interpretive and wayfinding signage, and GIS mapping.
